M&E ensure the achievement of developmental results through continuous steering and learning. Results-oriented monitoring enables evidence-based decisions among key stakeholders and provides the base for project management teams for efficient use of available resources. It is also key for taking care of negative results and risk factors in a productive way.

This advanced course on monitoring and evaluation is especially designed for senior managers and monitoring and evaluation specialists interested in developing a sound understanding of concepts, principles and instruments and design and implement M&E related activities in a systematic way. It also aims to strengthen participants’ capability to become trainer/facilitator of M&E processes in their own working environment.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training, the participants will

  • Expand their know-how on Monitoring and Evaluation in the context of Project Cycle Management and on different types of monitoring (inputs, activities and results).
  • Design logically consistent results frameworks consisting of results, indicators, data sources and risks considering capacity development aspects
  • Formulate a monitoring plan by defining monitoring activities, milestones, resources, responsibilities and progress markers
  • Master data collection instruments (quantitative and qualitative) for tracking and measuring results at various levels and various types
  • Map challenges related to results-oriented  monitoring and evaluation in their project context and develop strategies to deal with them
  • Translate key principles and criteria formulated for evaluation by OECD/DAC to their organizational context
